Connected TV is evolving from a media channel into a commerce platform. As retailers, streaming platforms and advertisers become more interconnected, the opportunity is no longer just about reaching audiences—it's about creating seamless experiences that connect content, shopping and measurable business outcomes.
Here are three of the biggest takeaways from a recent conversation with Adam Bergman, Head of Advertising & Data Sales at VIZIO.
1. Scale Only Matters If It Creates Better Experiences
As VIZIO continues to expand its operating system footprint, Bergman believes scale isn't the end goal—it's the foundation that enables better consumer experiences and more effective advertising.
"The Walmart acquisition wasn't an exit. This was about enablement. This year, we are the number one sold television operating system to date. And this allows us to continue the interesting work we were already doing about experience, about content development and programming, and certainly about outcome-driven marketing solutions."

2. The Future of Commerce Isn't Shoppable TV—It's Connected Experiences
While much of the industry focuses on adding "Buy Now" buttons to TV, Bergman argues the bigger opportunity is creating connected experiences that naturally move consumers from discovery to purchase.
"We're actually creating great content that is building directly towards commerce-driven experiences. It doesn't have to be shoppable. There's a whole other part of that shopping process where you're taking a look at new products, getting exposed to products you haven't seen before, or being reminded about products you purchase regularly."

3. Great Data Should Unlock Creativity (Not Replace It)
For Bergman, the ultimate goal is using better infrastructure and richer consumer signals to create better marketing experiences.
"People vote with their behavior. What they watch is a hand raise of who they are and what they're interested in. Purchase behavior is no different. If anything, it's an even more powerful signal because true action happens."
